It retains pedestrian fidelity. It is currently served by Caltrain, Amtrak, ACE, and VTA light rail. The proposed layout adds 14 platforms across three levels. There will be platforms on top, a large concourse beneath them, and an LRT below, with two connections to the separate BART station (surface or tunnel link).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We simulated a peak hour with a 15-minute peak-of-peak period, using static routing for baseline paths and <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.ptvgroup.com\/en\/technologyplus\/big-data-ptv-suite-for-large-scale-projects\/#h-vissim-precision-with-dynamic-traffic-assignment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dynamic routing<\/a> to capture adaptation as densities rise. The model included <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.ptvgroup.com\/en\/trend-topics\/best-walking-cities-pedestrian-friendly-street-design\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">passengers with restricted mobility<\/a> and an <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.ptvgroup.com\/en\/modeling-planning\/airport-management-pedestrian-simulations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">on-demand airport link<\/a>, coded via a Vissim &#8220;helipad trigger.&#8221; Dynamic assignment updated perceived path cost (distance plus density or queue penalties). We applied light smoothing to avoid oscillation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cost-benefit analysis focused on three quantifiable aspects: transfer and vertical circulation travel time, passenger experience (clearance times, densities, and queues), and intermodal connectivity &#8211; how reliably and comfortably people reach connecting services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Design choices at Diridon must work for Caltrain, Amtrak, ACE, VTA light rail, and the planned BART and CAHSR interfaces. The proposed three\u2011level layout with a larger concourse meets platform\/concourse clearance targets and improves connectivity to BART and LRT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Accessibility &amp; resilience: <\/strong>Modeling restricted\u2011mobility passengers revealed vertical\u2011link constraints. Recommendation: add at least one escalator and widen the tunnel to protect performance and ensure resilience if an escalator is out of service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Surge handling: <\/strong>Static routing set baseline paths; dynamic routing re\u2011routed when local density\/queues crossed thresholds, with 10\u2011second cost updates and light smoothing. This identified where two escalators were insufficient and how a wider tunnel limits delay propagation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Passenger experience metrics: <\/strong>Reported <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.ptvgroup.com\/en\/technologyplus\/scenario-manager-in-vissim-and-viswalk-part-ii-4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">transfer\u2011time<\/a> and clearance\u2011time changes and <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.ptvgroup.com\/en\/modeling-planning\/crowd-simulation-metropolitano-madrid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">checked densities\/LOS<\/a> against project targets;
