From the outset, digital transformation informed its strategic planning. For cities elsewhere, the key takeaway isn\u2019t \u201cuse Visum and Vissim\u201d &#8211; it\u2019s how and when to use them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So here are my tips for other mobility planners:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Start Early, Simulate Often:<\/strong> Naepo didn\u2019t wait for problems to arise. Simulation was used <em>before<\/em> infrastructure was built. Most cities still use modeling reactively &#8211; after congestion or safety issues emerge. That\u2019s too late.<br><br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Break Silos Between Strategy and Operations:<\/strong> Naepo\u2019s planners didn\u2019t treat strategic planning and operational modeling as separate domains. They built a feedback loop between Visum and Vissim. Many cities still isolate these functions, missing out on system-wide insights.<br><br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Invest in Calibration, Not Just Visualization:<\/strong> The project emphasized <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.ptvgroup.com\/en\/user-insights\/calibrating-vissim-for-accurate-simulation-of-pedestrian-crossings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rigorous calibration<\/a> and validation.
